Find a Grave

You might not think of a website centered around grave locations to be a treasure trove of historical information, but this one certainly is. In addition to recording the location of graves, family members can post photos of the grave and write notes. But many have taken the chance to post other photos and write short biographies. So while it was probably not intended to collect so much information and become a nexus of all kinds of family history, it is quickly moving in that direction. For my kind of historical research, this is worth checking out.
