On the twenty-ninth day of August the missionaries of the Tennessee East District, accompanied by President and Sister James P. Jensen, met in the city of Knoxville, where a farewell banquet was held in honor of Elder David W. Barker, the district president, who was released from his labors in the mission field upon that occassion(sic).
Elder Barker was an outstanding missionary, and highly esteemed by all who associated with him. We regret to see him go, but it may be said of him, "Well done thou good and faithful servant.''
On the thirtieth, (Sunday) three sessions of conference were held, in which the Spirit of the Lord was made manifest. We were all thrilled that we could meet together in obedience to the commandment that we should meet together often in the name of the Lord lo be instructed in the way of eternal life. To the Prophet Joseph Smith the Lord declared, "And I give unto you a commandment that you shall teach one another the doctrine of the kingdom. Teach ye diligently and my grace shall attend you, that you may be instructed more perfectly in theory, in principle, in doctrine, in the law of the gospel, in all things that pertain to the Kingdom of God, that are expedient for you lo understand."
