The First Chapel of the Shelbyville Tennessee Branch

When the Shelbyville Branch was formed in the early 80's, from a portion of the Tullahoma Ward, the members met in the old Carney building in down town Shelbyville. The building, which once held the infirmary, was beautiful but it needed some work. The members donated time, work, and money to bring it up to par for use as a chapel. I, for one, would have loved to meet in this building. I'm sure the upkeep was expensive, as older building generally are. Plus retrofitting an older building with air conditioning and for accessibility while maintaining the historic appearance can be a challenge. The chapel was only used for three or four years before the new building was built in 1986. As of 2012, the old building is still standing.
