Manning Arthur

DIED IN THE MISSION FIELD

Elder Manning of South Hooper
Died in Tennessee the Later
Part of Last Week

Elder Arthur Manning of South Hooper passed away the latter part of last week while laboring as a missionary down in Tennessee. Indammation of the bowels was the cause of his death.
The body was brought home and funeral services were held in the South Hooper meeting house Wednesday.
Deceased was a son of Emanuel Manning and less than twenty-four years old, and unmarried.

I know it happens.  But it doesn't make any less sad.

Whatever "indammation" was (do you you think they meant "inflammation"? maybe appendicitis?), it still sounds more peaceful than some of the other missionary deaths you have reported. But yes, what a sad way for his family to greet his return.

When I first read this I thought bowel obstruction. But appendicitis is far more likely. Sad noetheless.
